"Kodály Seminar 2011, Kecskemét, Hungary"

The biannual Kodály Seminar is now announcing its brand new season with a new pedagogical course in Kodály-based music education, a choral conducting master class and a newly designed Kodály Summer Academy (KSA) for instrumentalists. The programme will bring world-renowned master teachers and performing artists to Kecskemét, Hungary for an unparalleled combination of summer music education and musical performances.

The Kodály Art Festival offers a wide range of engaging concerts, enriched by the master classes, exhibitions and workshops. During the two weeks of the programme, participants and audiences alike step into an intimate world replete with musical energy and creative activity, a world in which classical music expresses its power to unite body and soul.

Active participants of the choral conducting master class will have an opportunity to conduct at the final concert of the course while participants of the Kodály Summer Academy will have the chance to perform in the capital of Hungary, Budapest, in one of three different concert venues like the Kodály Memorial Museum, the Bartók Memorial House and the Franz Liszt Museum.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Registration for the Seminar:

Registration for the Seminar will take place at the Kodály Institute
on Sunday, July 17, between 3 and 8 p.m.

Schedule:

The study programme of the Seminar starts on July 18 (Monday morning), therefore the day of arrival is on July 17 (Sunday).

Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2011 in Calvinist College, Concert Hall. (Address: Szabadság tér 7.)

This is to remind you that on the first day of the seminar there will be a written placement test in order to organize the solfege-music theory groups at different levels.

The detailed program of the course will be given to the participants upon arrival.
It is to inform you that there will be classes on Saturdays as well!

All participants of the seminar will sing in one of the Seminar Choirs. Therefore you are advised to bring appropriate clothing (black and white) to fit the final concert.

The programme finishes with a closing concert on July 30 (Saturday evening), therefore the day of departure is on July 31 (Sunday).

Materials:
All materials used for the courses can be borrowed from the Institute's Library.
Materials for personal practice can be given by the teachers if necessary.

TRAVEL TO KECSKEMÉT

Kecskemét can be reached by bus and train. Trains leave from Nyugati Pályaudvar (West Railway Station) at Nyugati Square. Upon arrival at the Budapest airport you can take the minibus service to the Nyugati Pályaudvar (West Railway Station). The Minibus charge is 2990 HUF /person for a one way ride within Budapest.
This to inform you that trains to Kecskemét also stop at Ferihegy Airport, Terminal 1.

If you take the (IC) intercity train, there is a compulsory seat reservation (R).
After arriving to Kecskemét you can take a taxi which park in front of the railway station.

Registration fee: 20.000 HUF, approx.: 77 EUR
This fee is non-refundable.

Participation fee: 160.000 HUF, approx.: 615 EUR

Participation fee for passive participants in the instrumental and choral conducting courses: 80.000 HUF/person - approx. 308 EUR. (Fee includes observation at the master classes, daile solfege classes and free admission to the evening concerts.) Daily tickets are available for 3.000 HUF for students with student ID (only for the instrumental courses.)
